Guardrail Introduction 

Roadside Barriers have been developed over the years to safely redirect vehicles that leave the roadway. Many different rigid, semi-rigid and flexible designs for roadside barriers have been evolved. The most common system consist of a steel w-beam rail supported on steel posts with end treatments and transitions of various designs using similar materials, that's our guardrail, it can be hot dip galvanized or sprayed.
Our guardrails are designed in pursuance to the principle of keeping the vehicle inside the road in a secure way and at the same time minimizing the loss of life and property in case of an accident.

Road safety barrier system-a roadside device that provides a physical restriction to penetration of a vehicle in a way that reduces the risk to vehicle occupants and other traffic. Its purpose is to contain or redirect an errant vehicle. It is used to shield roadside obstacles or non-traversable terrain features. Occasionally, it may be used to protect people from vehicular traffic.


Guardrail Beam Introduction

W beam is the world's most widely specified safety barrier system. Highly effective and inexpensive, the most popular means of eliminating the threat from roadside hazards.Being a semi rigid barrier, W beam guardrail provides a desirable outcome for both designer and vehicle occupants. The ability of the barrier to absorb some of the crash energy reduces occupant risk and the deformation of the impacting vehicles.

An important attribute of Thrie-beam guardrail is its high level of performance especially for large vehicles. Due to the greater height of the rail face, Thrie-beam guardrail provides reduced deflection and improved resistance to vehicle vaulting or under running. The reduced dynamic deflection and maintenance demand makes Thri-ebeam guardrail ideally suited for major facilities carrying a high volume of high-speed traffic. Thri-ebeam guardrail should also be used in transition from Flex-beam guardrail to more rigid barriers. This significantly reduces the deflection of the barrier system at transition to the rigid barrier.

1. Beam and transition sections specification comply to AASHTO M180-2012
- Minimum yield strength: 345MPa(50,000psi)
- Minimum tensile strength: 483MPa(70,000psi); and
- Minimum elongation: in 50mm(2 in), 12%.
2. End and buffer sections comply to AASHTO M180-2012
- Minimum yield strength: 227MPa(33,000psi)
- Minimum tensile strength: 310MPa(45,000psi); and
3. Galvanizing specification complies to
- AASHTO Designation: M111M/M111
4. Bolts and Nuts conform to or exceed the requirements of ASTM A 307
 
Requirements for the Guardrail Surface Finish

A road safety barrier system shall have a surface finish that minimizes the friction between the system and an impacting vehicle. The surface finish shall be uniform, resistant to incidental damage and shall not be affected by detergents and similar agents that may be used to clean the external surfaces. Protrusions from the surface, which are likely to be struck by an impacting vehicle, shall not exceed 20 mm. Any protrusions shall be rounded or similarly treated, to reduce the possibility of snagging the body work of a vehicle or catching at the person or clothing of an individual. After construction, components shall not be left with splits, burrs or sharp edges after construction. Lapping of elements shall be in the direction of the potential path of an errant vehicle.

Road safety barrier system information 

Where a road safety barrier system is proposed, the following shall be obtained, recorded and made available:
(a) The points where the need for a road safety barrier system begins and ends (length of need).
(b) Minimum transverse offset required from the edge of the adjacent traffic lane.
(c) Allowable dynamic deflection and working width restrictions.
(d) Interfaces with existing systems.
(e) The nature of the ground or structural support that is required.
(f) Provisions that have to be made for expansion or contraction of the foundation.
(g) Whether gating devices can be used as terminals.
(h) The nature of any road furniture or systems that have to be incorporated, such as acoustic devices, delineators, sign support systems, lighting columns and the like.
(i) Spacing and nature of provisions for access through the road safety barrier system in an emergency or for planned work that requires different traffic arrangements for short periods.
(j) Whether traffic can impact the road safety barrier system in the reverse direction.


Guardrail Installation

 Prior to installing a non-rigid road safety barrier system, the site shall be inspected to determine whether-
(a) the proposed type of road safety barrier system and its layout are still appropriate;
(b) the planned type of road safety barrier system or its layout, or both, requires modification; or
(c) the installation of the road safety barrier system is to be aborted.
